30-DAY STORYLEARNING® CHALLENGE

C'est vs. Il est

Take our grammar-slaying, fluency-boosting March challenge and master the difference between c'est and il est so you can express yourself clearly and correctly in conversation!

Start Date: 1 March

Level: A2/B1 (Upper Beginner / Lower Intermediate)

C’est and il est are two of the most confusing phrases in French.

Not only are they sneakily similar… (They mean almost the same thing!)

But what’s worse…

This confusing pair appears in nearly every French sentence!

If c’est and il est give you nightmares, you’re not alone.

French learners the world over are driven demented by these two irritating little phrases:

  • You constantly forget “the rules” of c’est and il est and make frequent errors
  • You end up “just guessing” when you speak French and hoping you get it right
  • You lack confidence and feel self-conscious when you speak because you’re afraid of making silly beginner mistakes

The result...

You're left feeling like a failure, devoid of the confidence to express yourself in French for fear of making this simple, fatal mistake!

It's easy to feel like you'll never be able to use c’est and il est as freely and naturally as native speakers do. It's just one of those things you'll have to live with, right?

But fear not… help is at hand!

I’ve created a unique 30-Day Challenge that will help you learn and internalise exactly how c’est and il est work, so you can express yourself accurately and speak French with native-like precision and confidence.

C’est and Il est are a really big deal in French because they crop up in nearly every sentence!

Without them, you’ll never be able to hold a conversation in French.

So there's no avoiding it...

If you want to speak French, you HAVE TO master c’est and il est... like it or not!

  • Il est avocat OR c’est un avocat ?
  • Elle est ma sœur OR c’est ma sœur ?
  • C’est une gros ville OR Il est un gros ville ?

It’s enough to leave you feeling hopelessly confused!

The good news is c’est and il est don’t have to be as confusing as your textbook makes out.

Especially when you learn with stories, instead of rules.

And when you master them, you’ll speak French with infinitely more confidence and accuracy.

Introducing the March Challenge:

"C'est vs Il est"

With..

Here’s how the challenge works.

The challenge is based on an exciting original story in French that develops over the 30 days of the challenge.

This is a brand new story, written exclusively for this 30-Day Challenge.

We’ve created the story to be jam-packed with hundreds of examples of c'est and il est.

Every day, you’ll receive one new chapter of the story, along with a short video lesson and simple exercises to help you understand how c'est and il est are used in the story.

It'll take you about 15 minutes each day.

All you have to do is show up every day…

Over the course of the month, the daily immersion will help you absorb this tricky aspect of French naturally, until it just “sound right” to you.

You’ll be able to speak French more freely and fluently, because the c'est and il est will already be where you need them - on the tip of your tongue!

Here's What's Included...

Frequently Asked Questions

What level is the challenge for?
Both the story and the lesson content is aimed at A2-B1 level. (That's high-beginner to low-intermediate). In other words, this is for you if you've been studying French for a little while (or maybe a long while!) and can understand at least some French, but struggle to express yourself in a comfortable and natural way.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
During this challenge, we'll focus on the tricky French expressions "c'est" and "il est", recycled over and over throughout the story. You'll see these expressions used in a number of different common situations over and over in the story. This means you'll learn how they work to the point where they are effortless and automatic. You'll learn to know instinctively how and when to use each one.
What if it's too hard, or my level is too low?
To make the challenge achievable, we've kept each chapter short - only 250 words! This means that you'll be able to easily make it to the end of the chapter each day, even if it does take you a little longer. However, the daily video lessons will give you all the support you need, as you'll have clear, professional explanations of how "c'est" and "il est" are used in the story. This means that, even if you're really unsure these expressions right now, just by watching and studying the daily videos, you'll learn to think about them like a native speaker by the end of the challenge. If I had my way, this is the only way students would ever learn French!
What's so special about this "StoryLearning" method anyway?
Most French students try to learn "c'est" and "il est" through rules. This doesn't work, and is extremely stressful for you as a learner. Why? Because there are lots of so-called "rules" and it's impossible to hold them all in your head at the same time while you're speaking. It's also not a natural approach ... native speakers don't learn grammar with rules, after all! With the "C'est vs Il est" challenge, you'll learn through example and context, just like native speakers do! The magic of learning through story is that your main focus is actually not on the grammar... you concentrate on understanding and enjoying the story! As you're reading and listening to the story, the structure of the language will begin to lodge itself subconsciously in your brain. It doesn't happen right away - in fact it may take a couple of weeks for you to feel the real effects. But by the end of the 30 days, you'll have a native-like command of "c'est" and "il est" that will amaze you.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily commitment is only 15 minutes. This is because the principle of the challenge is that "little and often is the best way to learn". 15 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your French. You can fit it in comfortably: • before breakfast • during your lunch break • after dinner • ...even while waiting for the bus! The power is in the consistency - working at it for a short time every day. You'll be amazed at the huge progress you make from simply showing up every day to work on one area of your French! Remember, you get the audio of the story, as well as the text, so you can easily take part and keep up wherever you happen to be!
What if I am unhappy with the challenge?
I would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with the challenge, contact me at any point during the challenge and I'll issue you full and prompt refund.
How long do I have access to the course after the end of the challenge?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
