30-DAY STORYLEARNING® CHALLENGE

Incredible Idioms!

Are you tired of using the same old words over & over in your Japanese? Time to put an end to that! Take our fluency-boosting March challenge & learn 59 incredible idioms that will inject some pizazz into your Japanese & put a smile on the face of everyone you meet!

Start Date: March 1st

Level: N4 (Upper Beginner / Lower Intermediate)

To Japanese native speakers, Japanese students all sound alike.

And it's not hard to see why...

Every Japanese student learns the same basic words...

  • いいです (Ii desu - That’s good)
  • 好きです (sukidesu - I like..)
  • お久しぶりですね (Ohisashiburi desu ne - Long time, no see!)

(sigh)

Time to put a stop to the dullness!

It’s time to inject some personality and flair into your Japanese!

But how?

With idioms, of course!

Idioms are the life & soul of the language party...

And possessing a healthy repertoire of idioms is the surest way to stand out from the crowd.

In our fluency-boosting Japanese challenge, you’ll master 59 incredible Japanese idioms, so you can bring your conversations to life & put a smile on the face of every Spanish speaker you meet!

Normally, students find Japanese idioms pretty difficult to get to grips with...

  • It’s hard to remember idioms because they can be complex and illogical
  • You don’t know how to use idioms naturally because they depend on the context
  • Using the wrong idiom is guaranteed to cause confusion!

If you've tried learning idioms before, you might have felt like they're just a bit too tricky for you.

Well, not so fast...

Help is at hand!

I’ve created a unique 30-day challenge, Incredible Idioms!, to help you out.

During this challenge, you’ll use our unique StoryLearning® methodology to hardwire 59 idioms into your mind, so that you know exactly:

  • what each idiom means
  • how to use them correctly

...so you can impress native speakers with your colourful, lively Japanese!

No more long lists of phrases.

No more rote memorisation.

And most importantly...

No more sounding like a foreigner when you chat with your Japanese-speaking family and friends.

Introducing the March Challenge:

"Incredible Idioms!"

With…

Here’s how the challenge works.

The challenge is based on an exciting original story in Japanese that develops over the 30 days of the challenge.

This is a brand new story, written exclusively for this 30-Day Challenge.

But unlike a regular story, our challenge story is jam-packed with 59 Japanese idioms, hand-picked for their usefulness in conversation!

Fun, yet highly-useful, idioms like...

  • 朝飯前 asameshimae (literally “before breakfast”)
  • 二兎を追うう者は一兎をも得ず nito o oū mono wa ichi usagi o mo ezu (literally “those who chase two rabbits do not get one)
  • 弱肉強食 jakunikukyōshoku (literally “weak meat and strong food”)

Do you know what these mean? (You will by the end of the challenge!)

But it's not just the story...

Every day, you’ll receive one new chapter of the story, along with a short video lesson and simple exercises to help you understand how Japanese idioms work in the story.

It'll take you about 15 minutes each day.

All you have to do is show up every day…

Over the course of the month, the daily immersion will help you absorb Japanese idioms naturally, until you "just know" instinctively what they mean, can recall them on demand, and impress native speakers with your rich and vibrant Japanese.

The result is that you'll be able to speak Japanese more expressively & break out of the trap of using the same old words over & over!

Instead...

  1. You'll have a wide repertoire of useful Japanese idioms
  2. You'll instinctively know how & when to use them
  3. They'll be exactly where you want them... on the tip of your tongue!

Here's What's Included...

The concept is beautifully simple!

Every day, for 30 days, you’ll get:

  • One 250-word chapter of our Japanese story (jam-packed with examples of essential Japanese idioms in context)
  • The written story plus audio book (so you can read or listen...wherever you are!)
  • An insightful daily video lesson with our instructor, Jeremy. (He'll explain the different idioms used in the story)
  • A short daily practice exercise (to help you remember what you’ve learned)
  • Discussion with dozens of fellow challengers in our interactive Facebook group (so you can discuss the story and get answers to questions).

We’ve carefully structured the entire 30 days, so all you have to do is turn up and get stuck in!

Frequently Asked Questions

What level is the challenge for?
Both the story and the lesson content is aimed at students with an N4 level of grammar and vocabulary and an N5 level knowledge of kanji. (That's high-beginner to low-intermediate). In other words, this is for you if you've been studying Japanese for a little while (or maybe a long while!) and can understand at least some Japanese, but struggle to express yourself in a comfortable and natural way.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
During this challenge, we'll focus on the Japanese idioms and all of their different uses, recycled over and over throughout the story. You'll see these idioms used in their natural context over and over in the story. This means you'll learn instinctively how and when to use each one. You'll get daily lessons from Jeremy, where you'll learn about each idiom in the story, 1-by-1. This means you'll develop an intuitive and native-like understanding of when and how to use these Japanese idioms.
What if it's too hard, or my level is too low?
To make the challenge achievable, we've kept each chapter short - only 250 words! This means that you'll be able to easily make it to the end of the chapter each day, even if it does take you a little longer. However, the daily video lessons will give you all the support you need, as you'll have clear, professional explanations for how idioms are used in the story. This means that, even if you're really unsure about the Japanese verbal idioms right now, just by watching and studying the daily videos, you'll learn to think about them like a native speaker by the end of the challenge. If I had my way, this is the only way students would ever learn Japanese!
What's so special about this "StoryLearning" method anyway?
Most Japanese students try to learn idioms through rules and memory tricks. This doesn't work, and is extremely stressful for you as a learner. Why? Because there are hundreds of idioms to learn and it's impossible to hold them all in your head at the same time while you're speaking if you rely on memory tricks. It's also not a natural approach.... native speakers don't expand their vocabulary with rules, after all! With the "Incredible Idioms!" challenge, you'll learn through example and context, just like native speakers do! The magic of learning through story is that your main focus is actually not on the grammar or learning new vocabualry... you concentrate on understanding and enjoying the story! As you're reading and listening to the story, the idioms will begin to lodge themselves subconsciously in your brain. It doesn't happen right away - in fact it may take a couple of weeks for you to feel the real effects. But by the end of the 30 days, you'll have a native-like command of Japanese idioms that will amaze you.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily commitment is only 15 minutes. This is because the principle of the challenge is that "little and often is the best way to learn". 15 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your Japanese. You can fit it in comfortably: • before breakfast • during your lunch break • after dinner • ...even while waiting for the bus! The power is in the consistency - working at it for a short time every day. You'll be amazed at the huge progress you make from simply showing up every day to work on one area of your Japanese! Remember, you get the audio of the story, as well as the text, so you can easily take part and keep up wherever you happen to be!
What if I am unhappy with the challenge?
I would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with the challenge, contact me at any point during the challenge and I'll issue you a full and prompt refund.
How long do I have access to the course after the end of the challenge?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
Does the story in this challenge come with furigana? Is there romaji?
You'll receive three versions of the Japanese story. One is written in full Japanese script with furigana above the kanji. The second is written in full Japanese, without furigana. We also include a romaji version of the text.
